How it started

Our Winnipeg story, three chapters

01

Ethiopian and Eritrean cooking, the traditional way

Baro Ethiopian-Eritrean Cuisine opened on Beverley Street to give Winnipeg a taste of home-style Ethiopian and Eritrean cooking. Injera is the base of everything we serve — soft, tangy and made for scooping up berbere-spiced stews that are simmered slowly until the flavour runs deep.

02

The dishes Winnipeg keeps coming back for

Our injera combination platters, doro wat and siga tibs sit beside signatures like kitfo, shiro and misir wot. Meat lovers and vegetarians share the same platter here, so a table of friends can order once and taste everything Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine has to offer.

03

More than a meal — a shared table

Ethiopian and Eritrean dining is communal by nature, and that is how we serve it. Join us for lunch, an unhurried dinner or late-night food Thursday to Saturday — and when you would rather stay in, order Ethiopian takeout or delivery, or let us cater your event across Winnipeg.

What our guests say about us

Guest favourites · Winnipeg
The injera is soft and fresh, and the doro wat has that deep, slow-cooked berbere flavour you hope for. Easily some of the best Ethiopian food in Winnipeg.
Dine-in guestWest End, Winnipeg
We shared the combination platter with siga tibs and kitfo. One platter fed the whole table and there was still plenty to take home.

First time trying Eritrean food and the staff walked us through the whole platter. Authentic, welcoming and a great introduction to the cuisine.
First-time visitorDowntown Winnipeg
Ordered takeout late on a Friday and it was ready fast and still hot when we got home. The shiro and misir wot travel really well.
Takeout regularWolseley, Winnipeg
We booked catering for an office lunch and the vegetarian combo was the first thing to disappear. Everyone asked where the food came from.
